Students from the Centre for New Writing launch the 2021 edition of the Manchester Anthology

Students from the Centre for New Writing have launched the 2021 edition of the Manchester Anthology.

The Manchester Anthology 2021 presents the work of talented new writers from the Centre. Despite the challenges this year has brought with it, the students have found new ways to let their creativity blossom to produce an impressive collection of writing. The Anthology is a testament to both their talent and tenacity.

The students featured have just completed their studies for a Master’s in Creative Writing. This year’s Anthology features novel extracts, short stories, creative non-fiction, and poetry. The collection is introduced with a foreword by Professor of poetry John McAuliffe, who has published five collections of poetry, and his latest, The Kabul Olympics, is set in Manchester.

“…in this anthology, that imagined solitary reader is in focus, addressed, and gently ushered into a range of new worlds, into stories you will not easily forget.” — John McAuliffe, 2021 Foreword.

The students are celebrating with a Manchester Anthology 2021 launch event on 19 October at 5.30pm. The event will be hosted live at the Anthony Burgess Centre for a limited audience and simultaneously livestreamed for all.

The event will give you a chance to hear from new voices whose work is showcased in the new anthology. After a year of only communicating online, the writers have joined together to deliver an incredible body of work and we welcome you to come together in recognition of this achievement. Book your free tickets for the event through Eventbrite.

A limited number of copies of the Manchester Anthology 2021 will be on sale from Blackwell’s Bookshop in the coming monhts and will also be available to view online on the Manchester Anthology website.

The Manchester Anthology 2021 cover artwork was designed by Jeremy C Simon, and the book features illustrations by Eli Moore.
