Graduation
Graduation is a significant milestone in every student’s career – it’s an opportunity for the University to formally recognise your hard work and congratulate you on your success.
It’s also a special time for family and friends, who will watch from near and far to celebrate your achievements. Most importantly, it’s a special time for you – an unforgettable moment and the beginning of your future.
Summer graduation 2021 celebrations move online
While the government’s roadmap out of COVID-19 lockdown brings us all some optimism for the coming months, it's not currently clear whether social distancing or any other safety measures, including travel restrictions, will still be in operation in the UK later this year.
As the 21 June date outlined in the government’s roadmap is the earliest date that restrictions may be lifted and this is just a few weeks before our graduation ceremonies would usually take place, we have made the very difficult decision not to hold in-person graduation ceremonies this summer.
The health of our students, staff and visitors remains our top priority. Due to the many uncertainties, including in relation to travel and accommodation for our graduands and their guests, we’ve made this decision now to give you as much notice as possible, so your plans aren’t disrupted at a later date.
Details of virtual celebrations coming soon
Students who complete their degree requirements will still graduate this summer, even though there will not be in-person ceremonies at that time.
Instead we are organising virtual celebrations to mark your achievement alongside your classmates, family and friends. We’ll be in touch as soon as possible to give you the details of these plans, along with anything you need to do before graduating.
We will also, when time allows, reschedule our on-campus ceremonies as we recognise how important this celebration is to you and your families.
