Students prepare for biggest graduate jobs fair in the UK

30 May 2007

As hundreds of job-seeking graduates prepare to converge on Manchester for the annual Graduate Recruitment Fair on 13 and 14 June, The University of Manchester is issuing advice to help boost their prospects of finding work.

This Fair, the largest of its kind in the UK and free to attend, includes representatives from over 180 major graduate recruiters and higher education institutions, advertising a range of temporary and permanent job opportunities suitable for new and recent graduates, and postgraduate study opportunities. Different exhibitors will attend the event at the Armitage Centre, Fallowfield, on each day.

Jan Hewitt, Employer Liaison Manager at the Manchester Leadership Programme, Careers & Employability Division at The University of Manchester, which organises the Fair, said: "Recruiters tells us that first impressions really count, and the Manchester Fair is an excellent opportunity for graduates to make a positive impression on several potential employers at once.

"We advise attendees to dress smartly and bring copies of their CVs. It's also a good idea for them to research companies and opportunities in advance, as they may be asked to submit applications on the spot. A full list of exhibitors is updated regularly online at: www.manchester.ac.uk/careers/graduatefair."

The Fair will run from 10.30am to 4pm each day.

Major graduate recruiters exhibiting include Accenture, Aldi, Bloomberg, the Civil Service, Edward Mellor Estate Agency, Greater Manchester Police, Kingston Smith, Delft University of Technology, Centrica, Deloitte, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, HSBC Bank, IBM, Kellogg's, Lockheed Martin, The Royal Navy, Siemens, Teach First, Tarmac, United Utilities, and many more.

Professional careers consultants will be available to offer advice, and there are short, informative talks on interview techniques, CVs, application forms and assessment centres.
