Our Research

The Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences combines clinical translational and basic science research towards linking an understanding of the cellular and molecular processes, underlying cardiovascular disease with improving clinical treatments and patient care.

Centre themes

Cardiovascular Sciences is comprised of two thematic fully integrated and interdisciplinary centres that bring together researchers, with common interests, and facilitate collaboration across multiple sites.

Research aims

The key objectives for the Institute are to continue developing high-quality research programmes by:

  • Developing an integrated bench-to-bedside translational approach, for understanding the underlying mechanisms responsible for the functioning of the cardiovascular system in both health and disease
  • Train, at the highest level, future generations of investigators not only in those techniques and concepts traditionally allied to cardiovascular research but also in complementary methodologies that traverse the disciplinary interfaces
  • Promote and expand interdisciplinary bioscience
