The Works

Skills and employment levels in some of our local communities are some of the lowest in the UK. Our University is helping to address this through our leadership of The Works – an innovative employment and training initiative at the heart of our local communities in Moss Side and Ardwick.

The Works is transforming the life chances of local residents in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the UK. It provides: 

• opportunities and support to job seekers;
• pre-recruitment training;
• job matching to local employers, including the University.

As part of our commitment to recruiting and employing a representative workforce that reflects the diverse community we serve, we regularly advertise our job vacancies through The Works – in fact, some of our vacancies are only advertised here.

The Works is a partnership between The University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, City South Manchester Housing Trust and Work Solutions.

Our Directorate of Human Resources at the University manages our input into the project.
