University of Manchester Aspiring Students Society

Teachers and careers advisers based in schools and colleges across the North West can encourage post-16 learners to join our University of Manchester Aspiring Students Society (UMASS) for useful advice, events and support when considering higher education options.

UMASS offers post-16 learners the opportunity to engage directly with our University. The programme is open to all sixth-form students across the North West and locations within an easy travelling distance of The University of Manchester.

Students can sign up individually to the programme at any time. They will participate in a range of activities designed to enrich your curriculum and provide information on different aspects of university life. Your students will be able to choose activities that best match their interests and will support the skills they are seeking to develop.

When students come to complete their UCAS application, participation in the programme will enable them to demonstrate an active interest in their subject area and skills such as independent learning.

Our UMASS programme consists of:

  • Discover Days;
  • academic skills workshops and guidance workshops;
  • a monthly e-newsletter and a dedicated website featuring upcoming events and advice on the university application process.

Events run throughout the year and include activities during holidays, weekends and evenings.
