Aspiring media talent access tips from Hollyoaks and Hed Kandi in Manchester

11 Jan 2007

LEADING media organisations from across the UK will offer expert advice and opportunities to students interested in working in the industry, at this year's Media Careers Information Day in Manchester on Thursday 22 February.

Organised by the Manchester Leadership Programme, Careers & Employability Division at The University of Manchester, in conjunction with major industry sponsors, this popular event is open to anyone aged 16 and over who wishes to work in radio, TV, film, games, animation, the press, and other media-related occupations.

Around 50 exhibitors are expected to attend, including media organisations such as Lime Pictures (makers of hit teen soap 'Hollyoaks'), the BBC, Bloomberg, ITV and Galaxy Manchester; and training providers such as Skillset, the national training provider for broadcast, film, video and multimedia.

Interactive demonstrations will cover topics such as 'DJ-ing with Hed Kandi' and 'Media Make-up', while a full programme of informative seminars will tackle 'Breaking into Broadcasting'; 'Working in the Film Industry'; 'So You Want to be a Presenter?'; 'Getting into Radio', and more.

Anna Lomas, one of the organisers behind the event, said: "This year's Media Careers Information Day promises to be the best yet, offering students a rare chance to meet with all the leading media companies and get the very best careers advice from those in the know.

"Entrance is strictly ticket-only, and we fully expect it to be a sell-out, so are advising those who wish to attend to purchase their tickets now."

The Information Day runs between 10.30am and 4.30pm at the Manchester International Convention Centre, adjacent to Manchester's G-Mex Centre. Tickets are available to purchase online at www.ticketline.co.uk, or call 0841 424 4444.
