Cancer scientist appointed by President Obama visits Manchester

Breast Cancer symposium

Professor Max Wicha a leading breast cancer specialist from the University of Michigan, has been at The University of Manchester to discuss collaborations and deliver a keynote address to scientists.

As a member of the US National Cancer Advisory Board, Professor Wicha was appointed by President Obama to be one of the scientists making recommendations about cancer care and research in the country.

Listen below for his thoughts, given before his keynote address at the Manchester Breast Cancer Centre Annual Symposium:

As well as Professor Wicha, the Symposium – held on 23 October – featured researchers and clinicians working in Manchester on the next generation of treatments for breast cancer as part of the Manchester Cancer Research Centre.

Dr Rob Clarke, who led the event, said: “It was a great pleasure to hear from Max and he was impressed with the new facilities and the range of expertise we have here in Manchester.  As a result we had some very fruitful discussions about how we might work with his lab in the future.”
