Mexican students visit Manchester

The Mexican National Council for Science and Technology (CONACyT) and the University of Manchester Research School (UoMRS) was launched on the 22 June following the signing of a landmark agreement with CONACyT earlier this year.

CONACyT is an organisation which promotes and strengthens the scientific development and technical modernisation of Mexico. The Research School has evolved as a result of the long-term relationship which has developed between the University and CONACyT.

The Research School, which is part of the University’s Latin American Postgraduate Programme (LAPP), provides a unique opportunity for Mexican master’s students to improve their research and language skills whilst at the same time sampling what it is like to study and live in Manchester.

And last week fifty-four Mexican students from all around the country, with backgrounds in a wide variety of areas, have arrived in Manchester to be part of the school.

Professor Colin Bailey, Deputy President and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of The University of Manchester and Professor Teresa Alonso-Rasgado Director of the Latin American Postgraduate Programme and her team welcomed them to the university.

Professor Bailey said: “It is a pleasure to welcome these enthusiastic visiting students who have arrived to study in Manchester. It is expected that having had a taste of postgraduate life at Manchester that many of these students will wish to return to undertake doctoral study at the University.
