University vice-president to help steer European doctoral education policy

Luke Georghiou, Vice-President for Research and Innovation at The University of Manchester, has been appointed to the European University Association’s Council for Doctoral Education (EUA-CDE).

Luke will chair the Steering Committee for the European membership service which is dedicated to the development, advancement and improvement of doctoral education in Europe. The Steering Committee is responsible for developing and implementing the activities of EUA-CDE and advises the EUA statutory bodies on issues concerning doctoral education.

He said: ”I am delighted to be given the opportunity to help advance doctoral education across Europe. This is also recognition of Manchester's achievements in this area. Doctoral researchers represent the future of the university system as well as making a valuable contribution to many professions.

”We need to provide the best possible conditions and support at this crucial career stage.The CDA has an influential voice across Europe.”

Professor Georghiou will take up the post in autumn 2016. The appointment sits alongside his duties at The University of Manchester.
