In April 2016 Manchester eScholar was replaced by the University of Manchester’s new Research Information Management System, Pure. In the autumn the University’s research outputs will be available to search and browse via a new Research Portal. Until then the University’s full publication record can be accessed via a temporary portal and the old eScholar content is available to search and browse via this archive.

Abstract

A method and apparatus for the cutting of thick sections of cement-based materials are described, the method comprising the steps of mutually traversing a surface to be cut with a laser beam at a power density such as to produce a depth of molten material of a maximum of 10 mm at each traverse; allowing said molten material to solidify; breaking said solidified material into particles; and, removing said particles by suction means.
