In April 2016 Manchester eScholar was replaced by the University of Manchester’s new Research Information Management System, Pure. In the autumn the University’s research outputs will be available to search and browse via a new Research Portal. Until then the University’s full publication record can be accessed via a temporary portal and the old eScholar content is available to search and browse via this archive.

    Abstract

    This dissertation is submitted to The University of Manchester for the degree of Master of Enterprise in the Faculty of Humanities. This dissertation comprises of two distinct and separate sections. The first section regards the science element behind developing a web based distance learning platform that enables individual instructors to teach online. This section therefore includes the requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing and evaluation of the software developed. The second section regards the business aspects of the enterprise, including market analysis, business model and commercialisation issues.
