
Students completing Higher Secondary School Certificates at the end of Standard XII will usually be eligible for entry to the first year of undergraduate courses provided they have achieved a minimum of 80% overall.
Please note that certain degrees such as those in management require a minimum of 85% in at least two subjects.
Specific requirements for individual academic Schools may vary by board and subjects taken.
Please note that Standard XII examinations are not acceptable for direct entry to Medicine or Dentistry.
Students who have completed a minimum of a three-year degree and who have obtained first class at a reputable university are considered for postgraduate study. Please note that there are additional requirements for the MBA.
Additional requirements for the MBA
In addition to the academic requirements for postgraduate taught programmes listed above, a minimum of three years post-graduation work experience is required for the MBA.
Please note, most of our students have considerably more than three years post-graduation work experience.
PhD
Students who have completed a minimum of a three-year degree and who have obtained first class from a reputable university are considered for postgraduate research programmes.
Students who have completed a three-year degree, obtained first class, and also obtained a masters, both from reputable universities, are also considered for postgraduate research programmes.
Postgraduate research degrees are individually supervised. We strongly recommend that prospective applicants make initial enquiries with the potential supervisor or school before submitting a formal application.
A research proposal is required along with your formal application.
English language requirements at The University of Manchester are determined by individual Schools. Some Schools accept 70% and above in Year 12 from certain higher secondary school examination boards. Please check with your prospective School for guidance.
If you are required to take an additional English qualification we require a minimum of IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 550 (written version) or 213 (computer version). This, however, depends on the course you wish to apply for. Some courses, for example in Law or Business, have higher requirements. You are advised to check with your prospective School.
