Fallowfield is known as the 'student village', and is Manchester's most popular student area. The area is alive with student pubs and bars, and has a leisure complex nearby. Popular with young professionals and students alike, Chorlton is a good compromise in terms of distance from campus, affordability and standard of living. The area is up and coming with modern bars, cafes and restaurants. Property is affordable and generally of a good standard, while bus routes to the University and city centre are excellent.
Withington
A mile (1.5km) south of Fallowfield on the Wilmslow Road - or about five minutes away by bus. The high street has everything you need including shops and bars. Accommodation can be cheap, and the population is less student-heavy.
Didsbury
A mile (1.5km) south of Withington is the prosperous area of Didsbury. The high street is full of highly rated bars and restaurants, but it's a bit more expensive than other areas. The area is mainly residential, with most property catering for young professionals. Buses to and from campus are frequent.
Rusholme
One of the most affordable student areas, Rusholme is close to campus and along the main bus route. There are supermarkets and shops in the area, not to mention the multitude of curry houses along Rusholme's high street.
Whalley Range
Fairly near the city and University, Whalley Range has lots of reasonably priced accommodation. Amenities are in shorter supply, but it is leafy and close to Chorlton. Buses also run to and from campus.
Moss Side
To the west of Rusholme, Moss Side is convenient for the University and the city. This is a less expensive area. While a large number of students do live in this area they tend to be older students who know the area well.
