A Masters level research degree obtained by successful examination of a thesis. The minimum period of study is one year.
The thesis will show convincing evidence of the capacity of the candidate to pursue research and scholarship, and represent original work that is appropriately located by the candidate within a wider field of knowledge and investigation.
The Master of Philosophy is a one year postgraduate research degree. Students undertake a substantial research project and may undertake some of the research training available to PhD students.
The MPhil programme at MBS offers an annual entry point of September. Complete applications must be received by 30 June - please refer to the Entry Requirements information for further details.
Teaching and learning
The MPhil programme does not require students to undertake any Research Training; however students may choose to attend courses from the PhD Research Training Programme subject to availability.
Additional fee information
For 2014-15 entry, the tuition fees are still to be announced. As a guide, for 2013-14 entry, tuition fees were:
Full-time - £3,900
Part-time - £1,950 for Year 1; the fee for Year 2 is expected to increase.
For 2014-15 entry, tuition fees are:
Full-time - £14,000
Part-time - £7,000 per year for the 2-year programme. Students who require a visa in order to study in the UK are not eligible to apply for the part-time PhD.

Please note that fees quoted are only valid for 2014-15 entry, and will increase each year. If you defer your offer of a place you are required to pay the fees relevant to your new year of entry.
