Degree awarded: MA or PG Dip

Duration: 12 months full-time

Entry requirements:

For the MA, a First or Upper Second class honours degree or overseas equivalent, in any area of the humanities or social sciences.

Course fees: For entry in 2009, the fees are £3,400 (£1,700 for part-time) per annum for home/EU students and £10,800 for international students. These figures will be subject to change for entry in 2010.

Scholarships/sponsorships: For subject areas that hold awards in particular years, UK and EU applicants may enter the AHRC Block Grant Partnership competition (deadline 1st April). The complete list of subject areas covered and the number of awards available in each year is listed here. This is highly competitive, and applicants should discuss applying with the Programme Director as soon as possible. Some awards are usually offered by the School or department: see the  school website for current information, or contact the Admissions Administrator. Some awards are reserved for international applicants.

How to apply:

Here is a step-by-step guide to submitting a completed application form to the School:

Step 1

Please go to the Applicant's Guide to see what supporting documents you will need to submit with your application.

Step 2

Download a referee report form and send it to your referees (to those eligible for the AHRC competition *, this reference can also be used in support of the funding application - as opposed to you chasing a separate one).

Step 3

Complete the standard online application form - you might like to save this link as a favourite as once you have registered onto the form, you can go back and complete it at your leisure.

Step 4

You will then receive an email confirming that your application has been received. It would be helpful if you make a note of the ID Number you are given for any further queries you may have.

Claire in Admissions will email you if any of your supporting documents are missing.

Step 5

You will be informed of our decision by email and post.

For any queries please call Andy on 0161 275 3144 or Claire on 0161 306 1259.

*Information on funding applications such as AHRC funding can be found here. The deadline for AHRC funding is 1 st April.

There is no specific deadline before September for the course.
