Chris's research interests concern the impact of innovation on environmental, social and economic sustainability, and the effect of the quest for "sustainability" on the organisations that together make up extended industrial systems or value chains. He has worked on several projects with a food sector focus, including an ESRC-sponsored project studying production-consumption systems for fish, potaotes, chicken and peas, an extensive review of food life cycle assessments for the UK Environment Department in 2005/6, and a review of the environmental and social impacts of the liquid milk production and consumption system for the same Department in 2007.
His current work involves further study of the mechanisms of innovation for sustainability, in a project with colleagues from the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research, funded by the Sustainable Consumption Institute .
