I became lecturer at the University of Manchester in 2010, after holding temporary posts at the University of Nottingham and the University of Liverpool. I completed my PhD at the University of Manchester in 2007, having also undertaken my MA here in 2002 - 3 in Cultural History: History and Postmodernism and my BA in History, 1999-2002. My doctoral thesis was titled, 'The “Spectacle” of Interwar Manchester and Liverpool: Urban Fantasies, Consumer Cultures and Gendered Identities'. The thesis explored a range of forms of urban culture (including civic, consumer and religious) in interwar Liverpool and Manchester using the concepts of urban fantasies and the spectacle to understand how forms of identity were articulated and performed within the urban environment.
