Biography
- Graduation as medical doctor at the University of Erlangen, Germany, in 1980
- After basic general clinical training, clinical research fellow at the Max-Planck-Institute for Neurological Research in Cologne, Germany, since 1982
- Clinical specialist training in neurology at municipal and university hospitals, Cologne, Germany, from 1982 to 1990
- Since 1994 professor of neurology at the University of Cologne
- Since 2005, after moving to the University of Manchester, UK, professor in clinical neuroscience and head of the neuroscience imaging programme at the Wolfson Molecular Imaging Centre (WMIC)
- WMIC director from April 2006 to July 2010
