Søren Holm holds degrees in Medicine, and in Philosophy and Religious Studies from the University of Copenhagen. A Masters degree in Health Care Ethics and Law from the University of Manchester. And a PhD and a higher Danish doctorate from the University of Copenhagen.

He has been the President of the European Society for the Philosophy of Medicine and Health Care, and is currently the Vice-President of the International Association of Bioethics.

He is a former member of the Danish Council of Ethics and of the Nuffielc Council on Bioethics.
