Role

Dr Ahmed Salem, MB ChB, MSc, FRCR is a clinical research fellow in lung cancer imaging (University of Manchester) and a fellow in clinical oncology (Christie NHS Foundation Trust). His current research aims to validate novel imaging biomarkers of tumour hypoxia in patients with non-small cell lung cancer.

Dr Salem has completed training in radiation oncology in Jordan (2010-2014). He has attained fellowships/ speciality certifications in clinical/ radiation (FRCR, Jordanian board certification and ESTRO fellowship) and medical oncology (MRCP medical oncology and ESMO examination). Dr Salem has 3 years of post-certification clinical oncology experience in a prominent hospital and cancer centre in the UK (Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust and Christie NHS Foundation Trust). 

Dr Salem has a track record in academic research with numerous (>30) peer-reviewed publications, most research completed with minimal supervision. He has also completed a master’s degree in oncology from Newcastle University (UK). As part of a current doctoral degree, Dr Salem is gaining experience in cutting-edge translational research and has acquired valuable grounding into radiation biology, functional medical imaging (novel MRI and PET) and clinical trial design.

Among other educational and managerial commitments, Dr Salem is a member of the clinical oncology professional learning and development sub-committee (Royal College of Radiologists, UK) and Manchester Cancer Lung Pathway Board.
