Biography

Ann Mahon is Alliance MBS Director of MSc Healthcare Leadership, The Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Programme and Senior Lecturer, Health Management and Leadership at The University of Manchester. Her expertise lies in leadership programme design, delivery and management and she has a particular interest in participant-centered teaching and learning. Ann’s programmes are characterised by a blend of learning interventions and a concern to integrate knowledge, leadership practice and self-awareness.

The Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Programme is a two year part-time MSc programme as well as a leadership development programme. It is commissioned by the NHS Leadership Academy and designed and delivered by a KPMG-led Consortium. The award is jointly accredited by the Universities of Manchester and Birmingham. To date almost 2000 participants have registered on the programme and the first 165 participants graduated in December 2015. The Programme Team has received a number of awards including:

  • December 2015: E-learning Age (UK) Excellence in Production of Learning Content (not for profit sector) GOLD
  • October 2015: Chief Learning Officer (USA) Excellence in eLearning SILVER
  • November 2015: Training Journal Awards (UK) Best Leadership Programme SILVER
  • November 2014: Brandon Hall (UK) Best use of Blended Learning BRONZE

Previously Ann was Associate Head of Teaching in the Innovation, Management and Policy Division of the Business School (2010-2013). She has been Programme Director of the MSc Health and Public Leadership (2007-2010) and the MA in Health Services Management (2000-2005). Prior to her roles in leadership and management education Ann held research posts at the Centre for Primary Care Research and the National Primary Care Research and Development Centre in the University of Manchester. Before joining the University of Manchester Ann worked as a nurse in the NHS and a community development officer. She studied Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Southampton and completed an MSc in Medical Sociology at the Royal Holloway and Bedford New College.

Ann has held successive External Examiner roles since 2003 at Ashridge Business School, Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, University of Southampton and the University of Huddersfield.
