Supervision areas:

I am very interested in supervising students working on the history of the body, French and British cultural history, the history of war and medicine, humanitarianism, French colonial history or the history of 'social explorers' in France and Britain. Please contact me if you have any research plans.

  • 2001-2005 - Rebecca Gill on Humanitarianism in Britain 1870-1914.  Dr Gill is now lecturer at the University of Huddersfield 
  • 2001-2008 Peter Wadsworth on the recording industry and studios 1950s-1990. Dr Wadsworth is currently working at the John Rylands University Library
  • 2002-2006 Sarah Britton 'The Wembley and Glasgow Exhibitions of the 1920s and 1930s'  Dr Britton now works at Coventry university.
  • 2002- 2006 John Strachan 'The Colon Culture of French Algeria, 1870-1930'. Dr Strachan is Lecturer at the University of Lancaster. 
  • 2003-2007  Charlie Wildman 'The Spectacle of the City in Manchester and Liverpool, 1920-1940.  Dr Wildman is currently Lecturer at the University of Manchester
