I am currently Lecturer in the Heart & Vascular Group, University of Manchester. Following my first degree in Biochemistry from the University of Nottingham, I developed my interest in clinical diabetes and cardiovascular disease during my PhD in 1996, at the University of Manchester. Since then I have been involved in a wide range of diabetic foot and neuropathy studies, including the North West Diabetes Foot Care Study, a large, community based study of foot problems in the UK. I maintain my interest in the aetiology of diabetic neuropathy and am currently the principal investigator of a Diabetes UK study investigating ethnic differences in foot ulceration and peripheral neuropathy. I won the Young Clinical Investigator's Award for work in diabetic neuropathy from the Neuropathy Study Group of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes in 2007. I have 31 peer reviewed publications in the field of diabetes in national and international journals.
