Biography

Long experience and permanence in different countries during all my life (Germany, Italy, Ethiopia, Belgium, Switzerland, United Kingdom).
Studying, living, working in strict contact with different cultures, religions and backgrounds has permitted me to embody the multi-ethnic personality that I have today. I have always been mother tongue Italian but my background has permitted me to acquire also excellent knowledge of written and spoken French, English and Sardinian and very basic knowledge of spoken German and Spanish.

My entire school career has been characterized by honors, encomium letters and medals for my excellent marks during different academic years.

During my University training I have worked part time as a teacher in a private school of Rome Italy, specialized in helping undergraduate students that had difficulties to pass their university exams. My role in particular was to help some dental students to pass their exams in basic oral surgery notions. They finally passed their university exams of the topic with very high marks. This experience permitted me to acquire good time management skills through balancing study and working time and developed excellent ability to motivate persons who were lacking in confidence by giving targeting advices.

Immediately after my dental degree I volunteered every morning for a full year in the Orthodontic Service of the Policlinico Univeristario “Agostino Gemelli” Largo Francesco Vito 1, 00168 Roma, Italy. There I had the opportunity to approach the Orthodontic therapies on adults and children. I started some research, worked for some posters for congresses and started working for the publication of my thesis of graduation. Working in that busy place has enabled me to develop excellent ability to work under pressure conditions and be able to deliver excellent quality of dental care under any circumstances of work and excellent team working skills.

During my Specialization in Orthodontics’ training, in Rome, Italy, I have become competent in the Electromyography and Kinesiography examination with surface electrodes and in the use of the PC program of the Myo-Monitor named K6. I have developed also some interests in the forensic investigations and medico legal aspects related to Dentistry. I have followed some courses and since April 2003 I am in the Expert Register Office of the Criminal Court of Rome, Italy as forensic expert in dentistry.

From May 2003 to September 2009 I have been working very successfully, in my own dental surgery in Rome Italy. I provided private Dental care to children, adults, elders, and special needs patients. Oral Hygiene, Conservative Dentistry, Regional Anesthesia, Endodontic, Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Periodontics, Prosthodontics, Basic Oral Surgery, Dental Radiography, and Prevention were by me provided to patients accordingly to their needs

Since my degree in dentistry I have always kept myself updated into all the different topics related to dentistry by following a lot of courses, congresses, reading different Dental Journals in different languages and recently also on line e-learning courses.
I have always met the Italian “ECM” and UK “CPD” requirements generally overpassing the minimum year requirement needed.

I have good IT knowledge in particular Operating system Dos and Windows and Software such as Office Professional, Corel, Photoshop, Adobe, Microsoft Outlook, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Mozilla, Google Chrome, Netscape Navigator, Skype, and Messenger.

Role

Since September 2009 and thanks to the University Dental Hospital of Manchester I have had the opportunity to start a new amazing working experience in the UK that is giving me a lot both from a professional and a personal point of view.

I work half of the week for the Dental School at the University of Manchester as a Clinical Teaching Fellow and the other half of the week for the NHS Foundation Trust at the Dental Hospital of Manchester as a Specialty Dentist.

For both jobs, my role is to teach Restorative Dentistry to Undergraduate Dental Students (BDS) and Undergraduate Dental Therapist (BSc)

Teaching

Since my arrival in the UK in September 2009, my role has been to teach Undergraduate Dental Students (BDS) both during their clinical sessions on the Ground Floor Restorative Clinics and during their sessions in the Clinical Skills facilities laboratories.

Since my arrival I have mainly taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th years BDS students. I have followed for a short period of time also 5th year BDS students mainly during their reset period but I have taken part in the correction of their Audits, and participated in the correction of some written final exams. I have always had an active part in the practical final year examination with particular regard in the preparation of the clinical unseen cases sessions.

For all the other student years I have always had an active participation during all the different sessions of the OSCII examination as examiner during the practical exam and as marking tutor for the written papers.

I have supervised with good final results some Critical Appraisal Topics (C.A.T.) for the  4th year students.

I am following small groups of different years of Undergraduate Dental students as their Academic Adviser.

Since last year I teach a group of final year BSc students during their Restorative sessions in the ground Floor restorative Clinic too.

When students are on annual leave my role is to select patients from the Staff View waiting list and mainly verify if they are suitable to be treated by undergraduate students or treat emergency patients in the Dental Casualty department of the Manchester Dental Hospital and eventually select those that can be suitable to receive further treatment by undergraduate students so to direct them to the Staff View waiting list.
