School of Medicine

Research is carried out within four of our Schools, with nine Research Groups.

A rich diversity of research - with an emphasis on clinical and patient-based translational research complemented by major laboratory research - is conducted by teams of principal investigators, fellows and students. These Schools host a number of national studies and research facilities.

The RAE 2008 results indicate that the Schools of Medicine are strong across the entire range of medical subjects with international excellence of 90% in cancer research, 80% in community-based clinical subjects, 75% in cardiovascular and 70% in other hospital-based clinical subjects.
