School of Physics and Astronomy

The School is one of the largest and most active schools of physics in the UK and includes the Jodrell Bank Observatory, one of the world's top astronomy research centres.

The School's reputation for research was confirmed by a grade 5A in the last research assessment.

The School of Physics and Astronomy includes the Schuster Laboratory in Manchester and the Jodrell Bank Observatory nearby in Cheshire.

A great deal of the experimental research by Manchester physicists is 'big science', such as Astronomy, High Energy Particle Physics and Nuclear Physics, based at international facilities.
