The School has a highly developed research culture as demonstrated by its excellently ranked performance in the last Research Assessment Exercise (RAE).
Sociology and the Cathie Marsh Centre for Census and Survey Research received a 6* rating, Politics and Social Anthropology received 5 and Economics and Philosophy 4.
The School is home to several major pioneering research initiatives, many of which are highly interdisciplinary in their remit and composition.
