The forefront of research and development in the nuclear industry.
The Institute provides the focal point for the University's nuclear research and education activities and interacts with external bodies nationally and internationally.
The North West of England has always been an important centre for nuclear research and activity, commencing in the early 1800s with the Institute's eponymous John Dalton, through to Rutherford's work in the early 1900s and in more recent times, the emergence of Sellafield as one of the largest nuclear engineering centres in the world.
The Institute is at the centre of the UK's nuclear skills and research agenda and offers exceptional opportunities to our researchers, students and collaborators, in the UK and abroad, with support and backing from the University, the Government, the Northwest region and our industrial collaborators.
We pride ourselves in undertaking the highest quality research across the nuclear field, ranging from engineering and physical sciences to the humanities.
