The Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre promotes interdisciplinary, challenge-oriented bioscience and biotechnology at the highest international level. We train future generations of interdisciplinary investigators in key skills to enable them to work successfully across the disciplinary interfaces to biology. We have a broad portfolio of capabilities in the field of our research ranging from engineering and physical sciences to bioscience.
Our research is underpinned as far as possible by quantitative theory and mathematical rigour of the properties of biomolecular and cellular components which impart characteristics that we associate with living systems. Some of these properties can be described as 'emergent', in that they represent (currently often unpredictable) consequences of higher-order organisation and networking. Allied with this investigative strategy is the development of novel enabling technologies.
