Institute for Social Change (ISC)

The industrial revolution brought massive social changes to Manchester and the North West of England. Today, globalisation and democratisation mean most countries are experiencing unprecedented social changes, viewed by some as threatening the fabric of society, by others as opportunities for social growth and development.

ISC is an interdisciplinary social science research institute dedicated to furthering our understanding of the causes and consequences of social change, and how policy can be used to maximise the benefits of change while reducing the costs. ISC is host to 'Social Change, a Harvard-Manchester initiative', a major research
programme in collaboration with Harvard University conducting comparative US-UK studies of social change.
