Dr John Peter Wild is Honorary Research Fellow in Archaeology and joint director of the Manchester Ancient Textile Unit, a research institute co-founded with the Dept of Textiles. He is editor of the Britannia monograph series and of the Archaeological Textiles Newsletter. As chairman of the Nene Valley Archaeological Trust he has excavated and published ( Longthorpe II (1984)) Roman sites in the Peterborough area. From his work on archaeological textiles stem Textile Manufacture in the Northern Roman Provinces (1970), Textiles in Archaeology (1988, new edition 2003) and numerous papers on Roman textiles and textile technology. He was responsible for, and contributed to, the sections of the Cambridge History of Western Textiles (2003) covering antiquity and the early Middle Ages.
Currently he is publishing corpora of Roman textiles from Berenike (Egypt) and Vindolanda (Northumberland).
