After spending 12 months as a post-doctoral research fellow, ChunLei joined Manchester Business School in August 2007 as a lecturer in Accounting. She obtained a PhD in Accounting and Finance in 2006 and an MSc in Accounting and Finance in 2002, both from the University of Manchester.
Before she came to Manchester, ChunLei obtained her undergraduate degree with distinction in international accounting from Beijing University of International Business and Economics. She then worked for China Trust and Investment Corporation as an investment project manager, stock market listing specialist and stock market analyst. She also worked with the World Bank as a senior project officer on "China state farm commercialisation project". She completed her exams and was certified as a China stock market analyst and trading specialist in 1999. In 2003, ChunLei received funding from China Scholarship Council to pursue a doctoral degree. As a PhD candidate, ChunLei developed a theoretical perspective on the process of financial management change and conducted an in-depth case study in a Chinese local government department. This has formed the starting point of her career as a researcher in management accounting.
