Biography
Dr Jamie Burton gained BSc Econ (Hons), MSc in International Economics, Banking and Finance (Cardiff Business School) and a PhD from Manchester Business School. From 2001-2003 he worked on retail consultancy projects as the Littlewoods post-doctoral fellow at Manchester Business School, before being appointed lecturer.
Jamie directed the MSc Marketing from 2006-2008 and MSc CCRM + MSc Marketing from 2009-2011. Jamie delivers Marketing Fundamentals on the MSc Marketing. He co-delivers Marketing on the full-time MBA, and further teaching roles have included teaching on other Masters level and undergraduate programmes, teaching on the MBA Business Research Methods module and supervising students at all levels. He is currently lead supervisor to three doctoral students, Helen Li (investigating the relationship between business schools and MBA students), Valdemir Oliveira (researching relationships in insurance brokerage) and Linda Nasr (researching the impact of customer compliments on employee well-being) one DBA student, Edward Crowley (researching service infusion in Japanese companies). He has supervised (as first supervisor) two doctoral students to successful completion of their PhDs; Dr. Vishal Talwar of LSE (studying relationship marketing) and Dr. Marwan Khammash of Bangor university (studying consumer motivations for using on-line opinion portals) and he has co-supervised three others including Dr. Malobi Kar of Said Business School, Yaser Alabdi of Al Ain University of Science and Technology and Dr. Christopher Raddats of University of Liverpool Management School.Prior to winning the Littlewoods post-doctoral fellow, Jamie won the Yorkshire Water doctoral research scholarship, which allowed him to study for his PhD, investigating and developing measurement tools to evaluate consumers’ perceptions of water utilities in respect of the quality of product, image and service process offered. Jamie has held a wide variety of service roles, including retail manager for HMV. He has given a number of executive training presentations, been involved in various research and consulting projects at MBS and delivered invited presentations for Shell, Vertex the British Quality Foundation and the social housing sector.
