Prasad Potluri started his career as a Design Engineer at Suzuki Motor Company's Indian subsidiary (Maruti) in 1984 and headed the suspension systems design group until 1990. He obtained a first degree in Mechanical Engineering from VNIT (Nagpur) in 1982 and a Masters in Mechanical Design Engineering from IIT Bombay in 1984. His Master's dissertation was in the area of spatial kinematics and Robotics.
In 1995, Prasad was awarded a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (jointly with Textiles) from UMIST for his work on Robotic Testing and Large Deformation Mechanics of Flexible Materials.
Prasad started his academic career as a Lecturer in 1994, promotd to Senior Lecturer in 2004 and subsequently promoted to a Reader in Textile Composites in 2007.
In 2000, Prasad established 'Textile Composites Group' to focus his energy in this emerging area of research. Currently, he supervises 10 PhDs, 1 Post-Doc and 2 MPhils. He published over 100 papers in leading journals and International conference proceedings
