Course description

The foundation route is specifically for students who have a good degree in a Science or Engineering subject but little formal training in Computer Science at degree level. In the first year of the course students study a number of modules (minimum two maximum four) through e-learning, enabling overseas students to study the first year in their home country. Subject to satisfactory completion of the first year modules, students then join us in Manchester on one of our advanced courses. One of the foundation units is credited to your MSc.

The course is over a two year period, thus enabling overseas applicants with low levels of English Language to take additional English courses to raise their competency levels prior to the second year of advanced study in the UK.

For entry in the academic year beginning September 2017, the tuition fees are as follows:

  • (part-time distance learning)
UK/EU students (per annum): £662 per 15 credits
International students (per annum): £662 per 15 credits
  • (part-time distance learning)
UK/EU students (per annum): £662 per 15 credits
International students (per annum): £662 per 15 credits

The fees quoted above will be fully inclusive for the course tuition, administration and computational costs during your studies.

All fees for entry will be subject to yearly review and incremental rises per annum are also likely over the duration of courses lasting more than a year for UK/EU students (fees are typically fixed for International students, for the course duration at the year of entry). For general fees information please visit: postgraduate fees . Always contact the department if you are unsure which fee applies to your qualification award and method of attendance.

Self-funded international applicants for this course will be required to pay a deposit of £1000 towards their tuition fees before a confirmation of acceptance for studies (CAS) is issued. This deposit will only be refunded if immigration permission is refused. We will notify you about how and when to make this payment.
