Minimum requirement is a First Class or Upper Second class honours degree. An ATAS certificate may also be required for some international students.

Please note: Funding for the Fusion CDT for Autumn 2024 entry has not been confirmed so any application is on the understanding that your application may be cancelled/deferred if funding is not confirmed. We expect to hear confirmation before the end of March 2024.
Please have a look at our current list of available projects and make contact directly with the project supervisor/s to inform them of your interest and to discuss the project (providing your CV at this stage would be worthwhile) before, or whilst submitting your application. You can specify more than one project in your application.
Once you are ready to begin the application process, please apply online through The University of Manchester online application system for postgraduate research programmes. If you are unable to provide all of the required documents at the time of submitting your application, these can be provided by email later (but we do advise that you do this asap). If you are currently studying, it would be useful to see your grades to date. You should be able to get an interim transcript (we know that these grades are often not confirmed) from your course administrator(s).
Fully-funded studentships are available to UK residents. It is also possible to consider international (non-UK resident) candidates.
Closing date for applications: Monday 18th March 2024
We examine all applications and shortlist the strongest for interview. The best candidates at interview are awarded studentships and can select the projects of their choice.

UK students (per annum): Band A £4,786; Band B £7,000; Band C £10,000; Band D £14,500; Band E £24,500
International, including EU, students (per annum): Band A £28,000; Band B £30,000; Band C £35,500; Band D £43,000; Band E £57,000
