Postgraduate study in English and American Studies is supported by the world-class John Rylands Research Institute and Library, which has exceptionally rich holdings in our field.
We have a strong research record and staff of recognised international standing in both traditional and emerging areas of the discipline, as evidenced by the following active research groups:
- American Studies Research Group
- Centre for the Study of Sexuality and Culture
- Medieval and Early Modern English Studies Research Cluster
- Modernism Research Group
- Postcolonial and Irish Studies Research Group
There is a large and active postgraduate English and American studies community which runs an annual conference and publishes its own journal.
We offer excellent postgraduate facilities and a bursary scheme for MA students and sponsorship for PhD students to attend conferences.
