Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies

The Centre for Translation and Intercultural Studies (CTIS) has an international reputation for the quality of its teaching and research activities. CTIS staff supervise doctoral research in numerous and innovative areas of translation and interpreting studies.

CTIS houses the Translational English Corpus (TEC), the largest computerised collection of translated English text anywhere in the world. This important research resource and CTIS's vibrant research environment (with one of the largest postgraduate populations in the UK) attract visiting scholars from around the world.

We offer excellent facilities, including a digital interpreting lab,  the Centre for Graduate Studies (a purpose-designed workspace with state-of-the-art computing facilities) and the excellent holdings of the John Rylands Research Institute and Library. CTIS organises international scholarly events and a weekly research seminar attended by an audience of researchers, students and professional translators
