How your research makes an impact

We are one of the largest research-intensive universities in the UK and our academics’ work has real impact.

The results of the 2014 Research Excellence Framework confirmed that The University of Manchester is a genuine research powerhouse both in the UK and further afield. As a research student here you'll be involved with diverse and quality research activity both within your local School and also at a University level.

Our research makes a positive difference to economies and societies in the UK and internationally. We are tackling challenging problems and supporting governments, business and communities to bring about real change and benefits.

Business engagement, commercialisation and knowledge transfer teams support the development of innovations resulting from research and offer guidance on how this can be taken forward. Our case studies reveal many examples of how application our research has brought benefits to organisations.
