The foundation year is designed for applicants who do not have the appropriate entry qualifications for our Life Sciences courses, for example, those that have studied arts, languages or social sciences at A Level or are returning to study after a period away from it.
The year includes common core units in biology, chemistry and mathematics. Following successful completion of the foundation year, students have a guaranteed place on the first year of any of the Faculty's undergraduate degree programmes.
The majority of the Foundation Year is taught by experienced staff at Xaverian College and there is also a complementary programme of tutorials, seminars and laboratory practicals at the main University campus.
The University runs several open days per year, in which Life Sciences take part.
The Faculty of Life Sciences also operates Faculty/campus tours which are available most days. These are with a student ambassador who will can tell you all about the Faculty and life at The University of Manchester. It may also be possible to meet with admissions staff (subject to staff availability). These tours are open to anybody thinking of applying to us for any of the Life Sciences. Family and friends are welcome too.To book, please contact the Faculty of Life Sciences Admissions Office on tel +44 (0)161 275 5032 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
