Medical biochemistry addresses the functioning of normal and diseased organisms from a biochemical point of view. Our courses will provide you with a fundamental grounding in the principles of biochemistry, such as protein structure and function.
As you progress, optional course units may show you how biochemistry allows us to understand and treat diseases. Subject areas include the molecular biology of cancer, cell cycle control and genetic diseases.
These courses are designed for biochemists considering a career in research into the biochemical basis of disease and therapeutic medicine.
The University runs several open days per year, in which Life Sciences take part.
The Faculty of Life Sciences also operates Faculty/campus tours which are available most days. These are with a student ambassador who will can tell you all about the Faculty and life at The University of Manchester. It may also be possible to meet with admissions staff (subject to staff availability). These tours are open to anybody thinking of applying to us for any of the Life Sciences.
