Course description

This degree programme is designed for students who are committed to Biological Sciences but have not yet decided on the area in which you want to specialise, enabling them to make that decision from a position of greater knowledge at the end of their first year. The combination of modules taken in the first year enables students to transfer to most of the degree programmes within the School of Biological Sciences.

The third year of this four year programme is the language placement year, during which students complete a project in a research institution in a country that speaks their chosen language. It is possible to study this programme with French, Spanish, Italian, German, Mandarin or Japanese.

This programme has been accredited by the Society of Biology. Accreditation is awarded to programmes that demonstrate the highest standards in the biosciences and provide graduates with the skills for academic and industry careers.

NB: Due to a change in the organisational structure of the University, this course as of August 2016 this course will be in the new School of Biological Sciences within the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health. In the interim period, you will be redirected to the current Faculty of Life Sciences webpages for further details on this course.
