Medical biochemistry addresses the functioning of normal and diseased organisms from a biochemical point of view. Our courses will provide you with a fundamental grounding in the principles of biochemistry, such as protein structure and function.
As you progress, optional course units may show you how biochemistry allows us to understand and treat diseases. Subject areas include the molecular biology of cancer, cell cycle control and genetic diseases. These courses are designed for biochemists considering a career in research into the biochemical basis of disease and therapeutic medicine.
You will spend your third year on a placement with one of our partner organisations in the UK or overseas.
This programme has been accredited by the Society of Biology and is currently the only Medical Biochemistry course in the country to be recognised in this way. Accreditation is awarded to programmes that demonstrate the highest standards in the biosciences and provide graduates with the skills for academic and industry careers.
The University runs several open days per year.
We also operate campus tours, which are available most days. These are with a student ambassador who can tell you all about life at The University of Manchester. It may also be possible to meet with admissions staff (subject to staff availability). These tours are open to anybody thinking of applying to us for any of the biological and biomedical sciences. Family and friends are welcome too.
To book, please contact the Admissions Office on tel +44 (0)161 275 5032 or email email@example.com
