Course description

This course has been developed to give you the skills you need to register with the General Dental Council as dental therapists or dental hygienists, and helps provide a holistic approach to primary dental care.

You will be trained to undertake a number of clinical procedures, such as periodontal treatment, simple fillings, dental radiographs and the extraction of primary teeth. You will also develop excellent communication skills to motivate and encourage patients to develop good oral health practices.

Fees for entry in 2017 have not yet been set. For entry in 2016 the tuition fees were £9,000 per annum for home/EU students, and are expected to increase slightly for 2017 entry.

Additional expenses

When on the clinics you will need to wear a tunic, which cost approximately £25 each, black trousers or skirt and black leather duty shoes, close fitting around the toes and heels. When attending community clinics in the Greater Manchester area there will be travel costs attached. There is no discounted parking on campus for students if you have a car.


NHS bursaries are not available for this course.
