Course description

Pharmacology is the study of drug actions on living systems; where they act, what they do, how they are metabolised, and how they exert toxic effects. Physiology is the study of function in living systems. This could be in plants and animals, but in Manchester we concentrate on the function of humans and other mammals.

These degrees take the most critical aspects of the disciplines of pharmacology and physiology and integrate them to form a structured programme of study. In the final year, your advisor will help to ensure that your course of study involves a balance between both subjects. You will spend your third year on a placement with one of our partner organisations in the UK or overseas.

This programme has been accredited by the Society of Biology and is currently the only Pharmacology and Physiology course in the country to be recognised in this way. Accreditation is awarded to programmes that demonstrate the highest standards in the biosciences and provide graduates with the skills for academic and industry careers.

It may also be possible to meet with admissions staff (subject to staff availability). These tours are open to anybody thinking of applying to us for any of the biological and biomedical sciences. Family and friends are welcome too.

Fees

Fees for entry in 2017 have not yet been set. For entry in 2016 the tuition fees were £9,000 per annum for home/EU students, and are expected to increase slightly for 2017 entry.
