37-32 points overall including 5 or 6 points in two sciences at Higher Level, normally Biology and Chemistry.
For degrees with French, German, Spanish or Italian 5 or 6 points in the language must be achieved at Higher Level. For degrees with Mandarin or Japanese 5 points is required in a foreign language at Standard Level.

Developmental biology explains how the single cell formed at fertilisation forms an embryo and then a fully formed adult organism.
For this to happen, the fertilised egg must grow and divide to produce the many cells within the adult organism. Different types of cells (such as nerves, muscles and skin) must be produced and arranged together to form the organs of the body.
These organs must be positioned appropriately in the body. Altogether, these ensure, for example, that hands form at the ends of arms, not legs, and flowers on stems, rather than roots.
Our understanding of developmental biology is having a significant impact on our understanding of evolution and modern medicine, including treatment of birth defects, infertility and cancer in humans. Of particular interest is the use of stem cells to engineer replacement tissues and organs, which could revolutionise medicine.
Developmental biology is a multidisciplinary field that integrates genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, anatomy, physiology and computer modelling. Consequently, you will gain research-driven knowledge and experience in a range of biological subjects through our course, from the molecular functions of individual genes and proteins, to the structure and function of whole organs.
The third year of this four-year course is the language placement year, during which students complete a project in a research institution in a country that speaks their chosen language. It is possible to study this programme with French, Spanish, Italian, German, Mandarin or Japanese.
Our course has been accredited by the Society of Biology and is currently the only Developmetal Biology course in the country to be recognised in this way. Accreditation is awarded to programmes that demonstrate the highest standards in the biosciences and provide graduates with the skills for academic and industry careers.
The University runs several open days per year.
We also operate campus tours, which are available most days. These are with a student ambassador who can tell you all about life at The University of Manchester. It may also be possible to meet with admissions staff (subject to staff availability). These tours are open to anybody thinking of applying to us for any of the biological and biomedical sciences. Tuition fees for home/EU students commencing their studies in September 2017 will be £9,250, subject to government regulations on fee increases.
