Course description

MGeog is an exciting new programme offered for the first time this year. It offers the opportunity to take three years of courses from the BA/BSc geography programme and then a specialist fourth year leading to a Master of Geography qualification. Unlike freestanding masters programmes all four years of this programme are eligible for student loan support.

The Manchester Geography department has been rated 6th in the UK and 8 th globally. These rankings are based on reputation with employers and academics, so you can be confident that a degree at Manchester will bring you into contact with the cutting edge of geographical knowledge and equip you with the skills that employers value most. As part of the fourth year of programme you have the opportunity to undertake a work placement to further develop those skills. You will also take  Masters level taught courses and complete a research project working with a member of academic staff.

The four year programme allows flexible choice across Human and Physical Geography units so that you will be able to customise the MGeog to align with your interests and career aspirations. Throughout the four years you will make use of the vibrant urban landscapes and inspirational natural landscapes of the North West as a laboratory for field learning. You will also have the opportunity to go on a heavily subsidised overseas field trip in the second year (current options include Morocco, Cuba, Crete, New York, and Iceland).

As one of our recent undergraduates said `It truly has been a life changing 3 years in the best possible way and if I had to choose again I would pick Geography at the University of Manchester every time.'
