Discover Sociology Day - 27 June 2011
The Discover Sociology Day will explore in depth the study of Sociology at The University of Manchester. The day will consist of an overview of the range of course, a careers presentation on opportunities following graduation in Sociology, a lecture, a tour of the facilities and a choice of workshops from across a range of topics in Sociology.
Sociology at Manchester offers you a stimulating and supportive learning environment where you can study a broad range of topics including:
- Social divisions (class, gender, ethnicity)
- Social movements
- Globalisation and social change
- Culture and media
- Work and employment
- Personal life (including family, intimacies, sexualities)
- Cities and urban life
Studying Sociology will enable you to see the big picture in terms of how broader social developments affect individual lives, and to understand how we got to where we are today as a society. You will be taught by staff members who are specialists in their field, meaning that you will learn about latest developments within Sociology. You will also be encouraged to use your sociological skills to critically examine contemporary society.
In addition, opportunities for students during university and after graduation will be discussed with staff and current students. This day will give students a real understanding of what it is like to study Sociology at The University of Manchester.
