Library

  • One of the UK's largest academic libraries
  • 4 million books and manuscripts
  • Largest collection of electronic resources of any UK institution
  • Historic John Rylands Library (which recently underwent a £17m refurbishment) 
  • Extensive range of resources and services including provision for disabled and visually-impaired students

Computing

  • One of the largest academic computing facilities in Europe
  • More than 10,000 PCs across campus
  • 24/7 access to computer facilities on campus plus a 24-hour cluster in Owens Park halls of residence
  • Optional internet access and access to the University network in most halls

E-learning

  • Many study programmes include assessed online components
  • Blackboard virtual learning environment allows you to study online using material created by your lecturers, download papers and take online tests, or access relevant audio-visual material
  • e-Learning can be used as the main method of delivery, but is more usually combined with classroom-based teaching

The University Language Centre offers a range of IT and TV/audio resources including:

  • CD ROMs
  • A wide range of world cinema titles
  • 18 major satellite TV channels
  • A well-equipped library
  • Guidance on independent language learning from a language adviser

English language teaching for international students

  • International students issued with a student card giving access to programmes of study and learning support
  • Full-time or part-time study
  • Choose from courses in general, academic, business and technical English

World-class research centres and laboratories

  • £40m Integrative Centre for Molecular Cell Biology
  • UK's largest high-voltage laboratory  
  • Jodrell Bank, incorporating the world-famous Lovell Radio Telescope and the Jodrell Bank Observatory Astronomy Research Centre

Arts and culture
